Our Proud History

Cobalt Credit Union traces its roots to November 1946, when 12 individuals submitted a request to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation to form SAC Federal Credit Union. The first location of SAC Federal Credit Union was Andrews Field, Maryland. In August 2018, the credit union changed its name to Cobalt Credit Union. The following are a few of the credit union's many milestones:


SAC Federal Credit Union changed its name to Strategic Air Command Federal Credit Union. However, in 1992, the credit union reverted back to its original name, SAC Federal Credit Union.


The credit union moved its office to Offutt Air Force Base, Omaha, Nebraska.


The Fort Crook Federal Credit Union, organized in March 1944, as the Offutt Federal Credit Union, merged with SAC Federal Credit Union.


The credit union moved its Main Office to 36th Street & Hwy. 370, and had expanded to three branches.


Total assets of the credit union were over $100 million for the first time.


The credit union converted to a community field of membership.


CU@Home Online Account Access was introduced. 


The credit union increased its community charter to include all of Douglas, Sarpy, and Cass Counties, NE and Pottawattamie County, IA. Total assets reached $200 million.


The credit union opens its 10th branch location. Business loans & services were added.


SAC Federal Credit Union celebrated 60 years of service.


The Board of Directors announced Gail DeBoer as President of SAC Federal Credit Union. 


SAC Federal Credit Union celebrated 65 years of service. The credit union increased its charter to include Washington and Saunders Counties, NE and Mills and Harrison Counties, IA, in addition to Douglas, Sarpy, and Cass Counties, NE and Pottawattamie County, IA.


Blair No Frills Branch opened. Ground was broken for the new corporate headquarters at 72nd Street & Highway 370 in Papillion.


The corporate headquarters building was completed. Employees moved to the new headquarters in April, and the branch opened in May.


First ITM open in September


SAC Federal Credit Union changed name to Cobalt Credit Union.


Cobalt Credit Union reached $1 Billion in assets.


Video Banking launched in June 


Cobalt Credit Union held a membership meeting, seeking to convert to a Federal Charter and our membership overwhelmingly voted to approve this conversion.


The Board of Directors announced Robin Larsen as President and CEO of Cobalt Credit Union.
